Employee Theft of Company Property: At times an employee will steal small items of firm property. In such cases, management wants to conduct a preliminary investigation. If you are a small business owner, terminating a high level employee may also be emotionally challenging because you have probably formed a close relationship with that individual. In my experience, many "not-so-smart" managers still go the "no-reason" or "stupid reason" route when firing a bad worker. I call this meeting the "Survivors' Meeting" but you must call it officially a "Company Meeting." This helps decrease the remaining personnel' feelings of guilt. After careful thought and discussion with the Personnel Supervisor, you're being dismissed as a worker of this business effective immediately. Lastly, the next chapter (Chapter 2) gives you the illegal reasons for sacking workers.

If you're a reader from outside the US, you should speak with your legal counsellor as well to see what laws you should follow to have a smooth and legal layoff. Sometimes, family crisis or other personal problems can cause a worker to lash out at their supervisors. If the problems do not upgrade, sacking the worker may be your only choice. If you are a small company owner, an employee leaving the company can impact the small company dramatically.
