Early in-the-week dismissals lead to a higher incidence of violence since the worker comes back during the week and "goes postal.". If you have an "emergency dismissal" and don't have time to read the options, then go to Chapter 8: Process - How to Prepare for the dismissal. As managers, we have the right to change our business direction or our business model. It doesn't matter how many witnesses saw the bad worker receive your verbal warnings, you'll lose without documentation.

You might make a note of this verbal notice your files so you can recall details later if necessary. Decide how to fire (give notice or not). If the disgruntled employee is negligent, for example, he or she may not suitably follow safety processes. This hinders the small company as it places a need for further disciplinary action later. Before you lay off anyone, you should determine the chance the jobholder will sue you. In the past, I've had a supplier call me within an hour after sacking a jobholder.
