What's the purpose of your business? For most people, it's to gain more freedom and time to do what they want with their lives. But running a business can quickly become all-consuming.
The idea behind the discipline letter is to provide a paper trail for future reference. Sacking a worker for having a bad attitude can be a huge problem in the day-to-day business of any company.
